For today’s WOW post, I wanted to share a fun way to add a bit of color and interest in a super subtle way – simply adding stitching with multiple colors of thread along the lines of your background paper.
It’s really easy to do and only uses the most basic of sewing skills. Here’s a quick little photo tutorial:
First, gather your supplies. You’ll need a background paper with some type of line to follow with your stitching. You’ll also need several colors of thread. I chose these colors to coordinate with the embellishments I planned to use.
Start stitching along the first line with the first thread color. Use a straight stitch. I chose a long stitch, but you can do shorter stitches if you prefer.
I wanted to stitch all of the orange lines first so I counted the lines in between and skipped up to the second orange line.
Move to the second color:
And the third color:
And finally the fourth color:
After the stitching is complete, trim the threads and attach to your layout.
The colored stitching really helps to tie everything together, don’t you think?
There are so many fun elements in this kit! “…[it] mixes chevron woodgrain from Amy Tangerine with a rainbow of brights from Basic Grey, Teresa Collins, Tim & Beck and Studio Calico for a look that will make you want to break out your roller skates. You’ll love this month’s exclusives – we have vellum diecuts, an asterisk stamp set, badges, wide ledger washi tape and enamel dots in a just-for-us color scheme from My Mind’s Eye.”
So would you like to win a kit for yourself? We have not only one, but TWO of these awesome kits to share with our readers! All you have to do for your chance to win is leave a comment telling me if you’ve ever tried stitching on a layout. We’ll announce the two random winners next Wednesday. Good luck!
