Copper Mountain – a Studio Calico Giveaway!

26 Feb

It’s been a while since I’ve had a Studio Calico kit to give away to one of our readers – but the wait is over!  Check out this gorgeous kit called “Copper Mountain:”

SCJan2014Main_copper_mountain

Aren’t those colors just happy and cozy?!?  Here’s how Studio Calico describes this kit:

“Head to the top of COPPER MOUNTAIN. Our January kit transports you to a cozy ski lodge, filled with rich colors, graphic patterns and woodgrain accents. In addition to papers from Studio Calico, October Afternoon and We R Memory Keepers, this kit contains a full line up of Studio Calico embellishments you won’t find anywhere else – a wood veneer die cut, mini badges, vellum alphabet stickers, and puffy hearts and chipboard stickers in a rainbow of colors.”

I am loving each and every element in this kit – but I am especially excited about one of the exclusive elements – the wood veneer die cut…let’s take a closer look, shall we?

SCJan2014Main_copper_mountain_wood_veneer

Just so you can get an idea of the scale – this piece is 4″ wide and 6″ tall – the same size as a standard photo.

I spent a long time on Studio Calico’s website perusing the Copper Mountain gallery looking at all of the fun and unique ways this wood veneer piece has been put to use.  Here are a few of my favorite ideas:

  • Use it as an album cover – fill some of the circles with patterned paper, chipboard pieces, and stickers
  • Cut it in half vertically and align it with the edge of a layout
  • Paint it a different color – I saw one with a whitewash finish, I think it was my favorite!
  • Use it as a mask and use spray mist to transfer the image onto paper
  • Use it as a photo mat – just trim a photo slightly smaller so the edges are all visible
  • Cut it in half horizontally and use it on a card – fill every single circle with bold patterned paper
  • Cut several of the circles off and use them individually (I’m not sure how to go about cutting these, but I love the idea!)
  • Place the entire piece in a pocket page protector – leave it blank or add other embellishments in the circles
  • Turn it into a photo frame – add circle shaped photos to the larger openings

There are so many ways to use this fun kit element!  So…if YOU owned this exclusive item, how would YOU use it?  Leave a comment on this post telling me how you would use it, and I’ll choose a random winner!  If your name is chosen as the winner, you will not only win this awesome wood veneer piece, you will win the entire Copper Mountain Kit, courtesy of Studio Calico!

I can’t wait to hear your ideas – good luck!

I think it would be the centre piece of a LO and I would use the big circles for photos and would fill the smaller ones with diferent patterns and accents. I would leave the piece as it is because I love the look of wood and this piece is just awesome!!!

What a great masculine kit!  I'm thinking that fabulous wood piece is just screaming to be used as part of some kind of wall art...not sure how yet.  I'll have to wait until I have it my hands to get totally inspired! :)

What an absolutely beautiful kit. Wow I just adore it. Love the circle veneer. I would use it as a template first then I think add colors of paper to certain circles, then add some embelishments. Thank you so much for a chance to win. I just adore the stamp set! and the badges!!!!

I would probably use the die cut as a "frame" for a series of circular photos which would be put behind the larger openings and then mounted on a scrapbook page. I would cut circles matching the sizes of the remaining openings with various matching patterned paper and also mount them behind the circles. Make sense?

I'm thinking as a stencil for tinted mod podge.  Since it's thick wood veneer, you can load up mod podge tinted with a paint color, let it dry, and get some great dimension on your layout.

Super cool!  I would probably use it as a mask so I could get more than one project out of it!  Then I might use it as an inlay on a jewelry box or something for my daughter!

I would love to use this gorgeous wood veneer on the cover of my 2014 gardening journal I will be making soon for my self.  It would look great to intertwine some flowers through it like a trellis.

I'd use it as a stencil for misting - would make a good background for cards, I think...and then I'd use it on a card or as part of a title block for a scrapbook page.

SC kits are always awesome! Thanks for the chance.

WOW wow WOW

What a FABULOUS kit!!!

If I was the lucky winner, I would want to make the most of wonderful wood veneer die cut, so 1st off I would gather some papers & use it as a mask to create some beautiful backgrounds to use later, then, when I'm done, I would take my black ink pad to cover my masking mess.  This beautiful black circle of art would then be the feature of a canvas, with pretty patterned papers and plain textured papers filling in each circle.  After I finish off embellishing it with some flowers, glitter and bling, I would hang it in our hall to enjoy each day :)

THANK YOU for the chance to win this CRAFTY AWESOMENESS!!!

Very nice! I would use it as a template...for misting, stenciing, creating similar shaped prices in cardstock (by tracing it on said cardstock and hand cutting it out). I do tend to buy things I get multiple uses from due to being a low budget scrafter so I can just imagine the possibilities with something like this.
